Thinking about becoming an esthetician?

The art and science of skin care is called esthetics,
and is a fast-growing career choice.

Getting trained in this field will require some effort,
some thought,
some money
and some time.

Don't waste any of these resources by choosing the wrong school!

Here are some tips that may help you find the best esthetician school for YOU!

(Print this page out on your printer and use it to start your research.)

#1. Talk to several salon and spa directors and/or owners about becoming an esthetician and ask which esthetician school they like to hire from.

List some of the salons/spas that you're interested in working for. Write them here...

#2. Talk to other estheticians and ask them where they went to school and where they would recommend to you.  Find out which esthetician school has the best reputation.

#3. Find esthetician schools in Alaska and check them out.

#4. Look online at the search engines and see if the schools you're interested in have bothered to create an online presence. (If they haven't bothered to create a web site, how serious are they?)

Here are some good search terms to try - alaska esthetics schools - alaska esthetician schools - esthetics schools in alaska - skin care schools in alaska - esthetician schools in alaska -
Just click on the search engine logos above and do some research.

#5. Check out some reviews of the schools you're interested in. Try the search you just did but this time add the word "review" or "reviews" to your search.

#6. Now that you have narrowed your list down to just a couple of schools, call them to schedule a tour and see how they treat you on the phone. Are they polite? Are they professional?

#7. Visit the schools you're interested in.

How is the parking situation? _____________________________________________________________________

What does their place look like? ___________________________________________________________________

Do they even have a facial room? (Some schools just practise in the "theory room" on manikins.) ____________________________________________________________

Would YOU like to have a facial or other treatment done here? _____________________________

Do they have a clientele for you to work on? _________________________________

What products do they use? __________________________________________________________________________________

What kind of equipment do they have? ________________________________________________________________________

#8. Check out their student kit.

Do they have one? __________________

Will you get the tools, products, and equipment you need to train on? _____________________________

#9. Check out the credentials of the instructors. Are they licensed instructors? Are they licensed estheticians? Do they have any additional training? ______________________________________

#10. Have the people that are going to train you had any international experience? In other words, have the instructors that are going to train you been anywhere else to receive training, or have they been trained down the street from the other place down the street, etc. You will receive a vastly superior educational experience by instructors that have an international focus on skin care.

Notes: __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

#11. Talk to some of the students that are enrolled at the school you're interested in. Will the school let you talk to the students? Find out what they think about this school, and the other schools in your area.

Notes: ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Ask questions! Ask about their philosophy regarding business and skin care. Do they emphasize European beauty therapies? What kind of specialized equipment do they have? How long have their teachers worked there and what is their background? What is their continuing education program?

Notes: ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

#12. Write you ideas down on a piece of paper and read over them frequently. Ask other for their ideas. Write yourself a research paper on the different esthetics schools in your area. The more research you do the better your decision will be regarding the school you choose to provide your esthetics training.

So, you've done your research. You figured out the best school for YOU! Great job! Now... when are you going to call them?
